RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

RATIONALE

Religious Education fosters and nurtures a sense of belonging in the life of the Church, through relationships with Jesus Christ, with others and in the world by assisting students to understand and participate in the process of revelation of faith.

Religious Education is offered in the service of the Church and its goals are concerned with the development of faith.

AIMS

The aims of the Religious Education program at St Francis of Assisi are to develop an awareness of, an understanding, a response to and a celebration of the life of:

  • God the Father
  • Jesus Christ
  • The Holy Spirit
  • Mary the Mother of God
  • The Saints
  • The Church
  • Our Community
  • The Wider World
  • The Sacraments
  • Prayer
  • The Family

IMPLEMENTATION

  • The Texts - To Know, Worship and Love are used at St. Francis of Assisi as a base for our Religious Education Program
  • The Junior school (Prep, Year 1 and 2) follow and use the Learning and Teaching process of the Good Shepherd Experience
  • The Senior School use and follow the Learning and Teaching process as outlined in the Teaching Companion of the To Know and Worship and Love Text
  • In all classrooms there are two hours each week of Religious Education
  • As the Eucharist is at the heart of the Catholic Tradition classes are rostered to attend Mass throughout each term
  • Each Friday the Sunday Gospel is studied
